Been a While!!

It’s been a while but I’m back.  I’m not all that great at these blog things LOL.  Any way I’ve been quite busy for the last bit doing a lot of work with Solaris and Sun Microsystems equipment.  I am currently developing a tool that simplifies the process of migrating an outdated Solaris 8 box to a branded zone in Solaris 10.  The tool is written entirely in Java and has forced me to learn a great deal about Java and using it to connect to servers over telnet and SSH connections as well as how to build nice interfaces.  Right now I am finalizing portions of the tool that solely deal with Solaris 8 and 9 migrations but I will be implementing features to take a Solaris 10 physical machine and move it into a zone as well as move zones between hosts.  In the future I plan on adding support for OpenSolaris and the Linux branded zones.
On another note I just got my new block of IP’s from Comcast and will begin redeployment of my servers and in the process I will be moving to OpenSolaris in order to make use of the built in virtualization.  This will allow me an extra level of abstraction as well as a way to neatly divide out the services across multiple IPs and thus allow me to better secure the gateway to the local network.  I also may do some write-ups on the setup once it’s all done.
